BUILDING of Barnsley College's new sixth form campus has officially started.

The £18 million building, on St Mary’s Place, is due to open during the 2015/16 academic year.

Gerard Garvey, Barnsley Sixth Form College principal, said: "This is a significant investment in the education of our young people and we aim to provide them with the skills they need to excel in their A-levels.

"This landmark project will also contribute to the regeneration of Barnsley town centre and improve the gateway into Barnsley for the benefit of residents, businesses and the wider community."

Councillor Roy Miller added: "It's fabulous to see this new development being built in Barnsley town centre, bringing new education facilities for young people."
