ANGRY residents whose campaign to save a field from housing development failed have vowed to carry on their fight.

The Save Our Field campaign took a body blow after councillors awarded planning permission to the scheme for the six homes on Cobcar Lane at Elsecar.

The plan from Berneslai Homes won approval from Barnsley Council's planning board.

Ann Loxley, 54, who lives on Cobcar Street, said diggers had already moved on to the field.

She said it was upsetting for children who played there as generations of children had done so for more than 55 years.

"We're very disappointed and think the decision was a foregone conclusion, but we're now looking into the conditions the developers have to meet as part of their planning consent."

Berneslai Homes has said affordable housing is needed in the local area and that it has already consulted with residents.
