A RESIDENT who cleaned up rubbish including soiled nappies left behind by a 'gypsy camp' has complained to Barnsley Council.
Rhys Turner, of Roebuck Ridge, also copied in local MP Michael Dugher, his three local councillors and Hoyland's Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Mr Turner's house backs on to the field in Jump park which was illegally used as a traveller camp for four days recently with more than a dozen mobile homes and caravans parked there.
Mr Turner said the site, which is used by the village's children, footballers and dog walkers, was left in a "dreadful state".
"I took it upon myself to do Barnsley Council's job and try and clean up the site," he said. "I spent more than an hour collecting bags of soiled nappies, glass, rotten food, broken chairs and gas canisters."
Mr Turner eventually had to give up as there was a "large amount of human excrement polluting the site".
He added: "I also observed three large rats amongst the bin bags. In six years living at this address I have never before seen this sort of vermin in the vicinity."
