A TEACHING assistant from Barnsley has donated the £200 she raised by completing a gruelling assault course to The Donkey Sanctuary.

Gemma Thickett, 22, completed the famed 'Tough Mudder' in Skipton last month and has already dropped the cash off at the charity in Leeds.

The 10-mile challenge, which included a 9ft sheer wall and an 'electric eel' crawl, was the "hardest thing she has ever done".

She said: "My mum and I have always loved donkeys and always wanted to buy our own so I wanted to help keep a loving and caring home for these beautiful animals at The Donkey Sanctuary."

The teaching assistant, who works at Greenacre School, has already signed up for the event again next year.

Gemma only started running last year but has also pledged to take part in the London Marathon in April.
