RELEASE fees paid by dog owners to retrieve their lost pets are to double in Barnsley, the council has revealed.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for place, said: "The new method will help deliver a more sustainable approach to this problem.

"For example, dogs picked up by the dog warden will generally be taken straight to kennels, unless returning them to the owner is very straightforward."

The current £25 fee for releasing stray dogs from kennels will rise to £50, while the surrender of a dog will be set at £100.
