THE defeat of the so-called 'bedroom tax' has moved a step closer, according to a Barnsley MP.

The 'tax' - one of the Coalition's most unpopular policies - is on track for abolition after Labour and the Liberal Democrats united to vote against it in the House of Commons.

Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher, who backed the plans to scrap it at the September 5 meeting, said: "We will continue to do whatever it can to fight this unjust and unworkable policy, and will now seek to scrap it altogether.

"David Cameron and Nick Clegg’s cruel and unfair tax has hit the poorest and most vulnerable in our community."
