A LATE Port Vale goal capped off a miserable week for Barnsley on Saturday.
The Reds, who went into the clash without a win in two after defeat against MK Dons and a draw at Fleetwood, found themselves behind thanks to Michael O'Connor's superb free-kick after 24 minutes.
In-form Conor Hourihane continued his goalscoring run, this time levelling from the penalty spot just before the hour.
It looked like the points were to be shared, but a last-gasp goal from Mark Marshall stole the win for managerless Port Vale.
"It's always an extra bit of a hit when it comes so late," Danny Wilson said. "The one thing I'm sure the lads will take from it is that this type of game typifies League One.
"You've got to be committed, you've got to be energetic, you've got to have enthusiasm and be prepared to put your head in where it hurts.
"It won't be given to us."
Next up for the Reds is a home match against Swindon on Saturday.
