A SHOP and a restaurant has opened in Barnsley College and is being run by students in a bid to help them gain real life work experience. Funky Dory and Crumbs are staffed by students with learning difficulties, additional needs and disabilities to help train them. The gift shop sells items made by students and other local designer-makers. Spokesman Jess Griggs said: “Working in Funky Dory is a great way for our learners to gain the experience and confidence they need to go on to be successful in the future and the students I teach in here have grown enormously in confidence and ability over such a short period of time.” The shop and cafe runs alongside two existing commercial ventures run at the college by students - Zest Restaurant and Images Salon.
