AN eight-year-old girl is taking part in a charity run to help raise money for poorly children.

Katie-Leigh Wright saw her mum Rachel Roberts complete the Great South Run last year, and now she's all set to take part in the Great North Run's 2km course for kids on September 28.

The Kendray youngster is raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, a charity which she chose herself.

"I'm very proud of her," said mum Rachel. "To do something so selfless at a young age and to think of others is brilliant.

"She became inspired to do something herself to raise money for charity and chose to do a run as she had seen me do it.

"She did some research online and had a look at different charities before settling on Great Ormond Street after seeing what they do and how they help ill children."
