A MAN with motor neurone disease left his wheelchair and stood on his own two feet when he renewed his wedding vows.

There wasn't a dry eye in the house when Monk Bretton couple Ian Pratt and wife Catherine renewed their wedding vows in York - at the very same venue where they tied the knot five years ago.

The cruel terminal illness - which has left Ian in a wheelchair - ravages the central nervous system.

Ian said: "Everyone was in tears at that point, but mainly it was a happy occasion.

"It was wonderful to be surrounded by all our family and friends wanting everything possible for us and to share such a lovely occasion.

"I was determined to stand up when I said my vows and was proud and pleased that I managed to do so."
