A MOTORCYCLIST has been injured in a road smash that happened in Hoyle Mill on Friday (March 2).

The rider, a 37-year-old from West Yorkshire, sustained a serious leg injury when he apparently lost control of his bike around a left hand bend while he was travelling along Pontefract Road from Barnsley town centre towards Cudworth.

Police say the bike - a black Skyjet 125cc - is believed to have travelled across the carriageway, collided with the corner of a stone wall before rebounding and colliding with a concrete lamppost.

The man broke a kneecap in the collision and was detained overnight at Barnsley District General Hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 424 of Friday, 2 March.
