A BARNSLEY mum has labelled the thief who stole her son's wheelchair as 'scum'.

Rachel Wrigley's 11-year-old son Regan Archer was born with myotubular myopathy, a congenital disease that causes severe muscle weakness.

The disease means he cannot go out of his Thurnscoe home unless he is in his wheelchair.

Regan, who relies on the manual chair, has used for the past 12 months.

However two weeks ago Rachel left the wheelchair underneath the car port at the side of their home on Oak Road and it was stolen.

"I left it right outside the side door," said Rachel, 35. "It's a manual wheelchair, it's not a fancy electric model and quite honestly I really did not think that anyone, no matter how low, would possibly think of stealing it.

"When I realised what had happened I was furious, but very very upset at the same time.

"I mean what sort of person steals a wheelchair, any kind of wheelchair - what could possibly be their motive?

"I would like to look whoever did this in the eye and tell them they're scum, evil... the lowest of the low."
