A NEW Tesco which is due to open in the coming weeks has created 121 jobs.

The existing Tesco Express on West Street, Hoyland, will close when the new superstore opens on Market Street, with some staff transferring to the giant 'eco-store'.

People from a broad range of previous careers have been employed at the superstore including a former teacher, midwife, lifeguard - and even a psychic.

Manager Matthew Pickthall and his senior management team conducted 312 interviews.

He said: "We wanted to ensure that we recruited the best team possible for our new store in Hoyland so we spent a lot of time working with the local community to fill the new roles."

The store will be open from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
