A BARNSLEY lorry driver who killed a cyclist on the outskirts of Darlington has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Father-of-three Anthony Winter, 24, died after being hit by a lorry as he cycled along the A68 at Burtree Gate in January.

Kevin Young, 50, of Hoyland Road, admitted causing Mr Winter's death by failing to pay due care and attention.

Young was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, by the Teesside Crown Court judge.

He was also banned from driving for three-and-a-half years, ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work and must pay an £80 surcharge.
