CHILDREN across Barnsley have achieved or surpassed their expected grade in this year’s GCSE exams.

They have achieved these credible results in a year when the government made significant changes to the exam system.

For the first time, pupils’ coursework has been replaced with one end-of-year final examination.

Early analysis of the results show that overall students in Barnsley have achieved similar results to 2013 when 50 per cent achieved five A* to C grades including English and maths.

Holy Trinity in Barnsley shone, achieving their highest ever results this year.

The school has continued their upward trend in attainment for the sixth consecutive year.

Headteacher Simon Barber said: "We are so proud of our pupils who have worked hard for these excellent results."
