A ROYAL Air Force flag has been stolen from the grave of a war hero.

Joe Pinguey, a member of the Royal British Legion, was shocked to discover the flag had been taken from the burial spot of J A Buckley when he went to Stottercliffe Cemetery in Penistone on August 19.

Mr Pinguey organised a wreath-laying ceremony to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War earlier this month and placed memorabilia, including the ensign, on some of the graves.

"Nothing is safe or sacred anymore," he said. "The way it was fastened down there's no way it could've just blown away."
