A YOUNGSTER who was pulled from the River Dearne last month has shown slight signs of recovery.

The nine-year-old almost drowned at Dearne Valley Park, Hoyle Mill, and remains in a "critical but stable" condition at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

It's thought he had been playing with friends at the park but it's not known how he ended up face down in the water.

The boy was rescued by passing horserider Louise Bennett, 40, of Monk Bretton, as others stood and watched.

Louise and another woman performed CPR on the boy when she managed to get him to the river bank.
