POLICE are appealing for information after a 55-year-old man suffered serious injuries after an accident involving his motorbike on the Dearne Valley Parkway, Barnsley, on Thursday.

At 5.30pm, a black Citroen Saxo, driven by a 26-year-old Goldthorpe man is believed to have been in a line of standing traffic on the Dearne Valley Parkway, travelling towards Goldthorpe.

An orange Ford Fusion was reported to be travelling in the opposite direction in free flowing traffic and it is through the injured man's black Suzuki motorcycle was travelling towards Goldthorpe and believed to be overtaking the Citroen Saxo.

The Citroen Saxo is reported to have performed a u-turn in the road and struck the motorcycle, which was then sent into the opposite carriageway and collided head on with the Ford Fusion.

The motorcyclist sustained multiple fractures and is being treated at Barnsley District General Hospital. The drivers of the Citroen Saxo and Ford Fusion did not sustain any injuries.
