BUSINESSES on Shambles Street were "forced" into closing on Wednesday after their water supply was turned off.
The town centre street - which has been closed one way due to the demolition of the library - is also undergoing water mains repairs near Town End roundabout.
Claire Paskell, whose son Tom runs Be Premiere Hair, said: "There was no water supply from 11am until 3pm so we had no choice but to cancel appointments.
"It's left us out of pocket. We were only told about it on Monday. Apparently they're allowed to do it on 48 hours' notice but it's very frustrating as we can't do a thing about it."
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: "It is our policy to notify customers 48 hours before we plan to interrupt their supply so they can make alternative arrangements.
"There will be no further interruptions to the supply."
