OVER £500,000 will be spent on tackling the town's troublesome potholes.

The funding - from the Department for Transport - will be formally accepted by the council on August 27.

The £503,145 award follows a successful bid made by the council in May this year for additional maintenance funding.

The fund recognises that potholes are a key concern of local residents, businesses and road users and potholes have got worse over the winter months due to the severe wet weather.

The money will be used on a prioritised basis.
