BARNSLEY Hospital is taking part in a national initiative designed to improve the experience of people diagnosed with secondary breast cancer.

The hospital has teamed up with two of the UK’s leading breast cancer charities - Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Care - in order to identify ways of enhancing services for patients whose breast cancer has spread to another part of their body.

Staff at the hospital will be working with the charities to undertake a patient survey to understand their perspective on the services it provides.

Patients will be able to submit their feedback directly to Breast Cancer Care, who will provide a report to the hospital in November to enable the hospital to put an action plan in place to build on the feedback.

Kate Widdowson, breast care specialist support nurse at the hospital, said: "We are committed to building on the feedback we receive from this initiative, and strongly encourage patients to come forward with their views."
