TWO charities received cheques worth £4,650 from last year's mayor and mayoress.
Now deputy mayor, Coun Ken Richardson was joined by his wife Nadia and representatives of cancer and palliative care services at Barnsley Hospital and the Barnsley branch of Talking Newspapers, who were the two nominated mayoral charities during his year in office.
With the help of local people, they raised £9,300 which was split equally between the two charities.
Coun Richardson said: "We're proud to have supported and promoted these two great causes during our year as mayor and mayoress.
"We would like to thank each and every person who made a contribution in whatever way they could to help these two great local causes."
