THE man who sparked a manhunt in Barnsley has been charged with murder - and ten counts of rape.
Police launched a South Yorkshire-wide search for John Heald last week, searching properties in Wombwell and scrubland at Cortonwood after more than 200 sightings from members of the public were reported across the county.
He was arrested on Friday and has been charged with the murder of Bei Carter in Bridlington on Friday 18 July 2014.
Heald (53) of Foljambe Road, Rotherham has also been charged with 10 counts of rape in South Yorkshire on 13 July 2014.
He is due to appear at Beverley Magistrates Court tomorrow (Wednesday 30 July).
