ANGRY parish councillors are refusing to give up their fight against plans for 76 new homes on farmland in their village.
Although Barnsley Council has granted outline permission for the homes, Tankersley's parish council is now asking planners to come to a meeting to explain the reasoning behind the decision.
The schemes are for 35 homes off Pilley Green/Lidgett Lane and up to 41 homes off New Road and Lidgett Lane.
Villagers sent 186 letters of objection to the plans from Jaguar Estates/Wortley Construction. They said the development would overwhelm the village, causing traffic and drainage problems, but the scheme was backed by Barnsley Council in June.
Coun Robert Lodge said: "Is Barnsley Council running a dictatorship or a democracy? They took no account of the parish feeling and have rubber-stamped the plans."
