A TEENAGER who suffers from epilepsy took part in the Junior Great North Run last weekend - less than a year after the condition almost took her life.

Katie Lee, 14, lined up in the 4k junior race on Saturday watched by her dad, David, who ran in the Great North Run the following day.

David, 42, said he "could not be more proud" of his brave daughter.

"Almost one year ago, Katie had a massive seizure which resulted in her stopping breathing," David, of Monk Bretton, said.

"We are so fortunate she is still with us. Katie wants to let people know epilepsy isn't the end of the world, she regularly says she will not let epilepsy ruin her life.

"We're so proud of her."
