THE notorious Stairfoot roundabout is to undergo another round of major changes in a bid to tackle its persistent queues.

As a condition of having its planning permission to convert the nearby B&Q store into a supermarket granted, Sainsbury's is footing the bill to widen the road.

The roundabout will be made into three lanes all the way around by widening the section between Doncaster Road and Hunningley Lane.

Doncaster Road and Bleachcroft Way, where the store's exit meets traffic from Wombwell Lane, will all be made into three lanes through widening and the removal of bus lanes.

The bus lane through the central island will also be closed.

"I don't think it will improve matters at all," said an unconvinced Coun Karen Dyson. "I think it will make things worse. It's going to make it even more of a bottleneck."

What do you think? Will the plans rectify the roundabout's ongoing traffic problem? Have your say below.
