MOTORISTS are being warned of major delays at one of the busiest roads heading into Barnsley town centre.
Yorkshire Water and Balfour Beatty are replacing 230 metres of water mains which run directly under Townend roundabout.
There will be lane and road closures on each of the entrance and exit roads to the roundabout. Closures will be kept to one exit or entrance at a time and diversions will be in place.
Mike Tunnicliffe, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "We would like to apologise to residents, businesses and road users for the disruption this will cause and are working to keep this to a minimum."
The improvement works are expected to be completed early in October.
