TIME is running out to register to have your dog microchipped for free at an event on July 29.

The event, at the pavilion in Royston park, has been organised by Barnsley Council and the Dogs Trust and runs from 11am until 3pm.

Coun Roy Miller said: "It will become compulsory in 2016 to have your dog microchipped, so I would encourage pet owners who haven't already had their dog microchipped to come along to this event.

"It's free of charge and will give you the peace of mind that if you do lose your dog, you can be contacted and reunited with your pet quickly."

For more information about the event, contact Barnsley Council's dog warden on 01226 773743.
