BARNSLEY has another 100-year-old resident!

Kitty Aldredge celebrated turning 100 last Sunday with her family at Oakwood Grange Care Home.

Born in Eastleigh, Hampshire, Kitty joined went into service as an assistant cook before becoming head cook.

Her son Bob, 67, from Shafton, said Kitty met her husband Les when she was 19, before they got married and went on to have two children together, and one adopted daughter, Maureen.

Kitty moved up to Barnsley in 1992.

When her husband died aged 79, Kitty moved into a bungalow in Cudworth, before moving to Oakwood Grange three years ago.

He said: "She's got five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

"Some live up here but others live down south where we grew up."

Bob said that he comes up to the home to visit his mum as often as he can.

"I feel comfortable with her living here - the staff are great and they take good care of her."

Happy birthday, Kitty!
