THE 11-month project of refurbishing the town centre's streets will be officially launched on Monday.
Coun Roy Miller, Coun Sir Steve Houghton and representatives from North Midland Construction PLC will take part in a slab-laying ceremony at 11.30am on the junction of Regent Street and Hanson Street.
Work actually began at the end of June, with improvements to be carried out on Eldon Street, Regent Street South, Hanson Street, Royal Street, Regent Street, Eastgate, Market Hill and Church Street's footpath.
It includes paving in natural Yorkstone and granite, new street lighting and new street furniture. Roads will also be resurfaced with improved crossing facilities.
The scheme, known as the Urban Centre Infrastructure project, is taking place thanks to a significant funding contribution from the European Regional Development Fund Programme 2007-2013.
