A FITNESS group backed by Barnsley Football Club is gearing up for a gruelling 12-hour challenge - all in the name of charity.

The 'Fit Reds' will take part in a gruelling Three Peaks Challenge later this month, and they're hoping to raise as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation.

The 24-mile hike over Yorkshire's highest peaks sees an ascent of 1,500 metres where stamina, endurance and fitness will be put to the test.

Lee Thompson, co-ordinator of the Fit Reds project, said: "Many of our group would never have attempted what we are about to take on had they not joined the programme.

"We have trained hard over the last few months and we appreciate the support from the people of Barnsley. Any donation, big or small, is a massive factor in motivating the group."
