A £10 MILLION development which will see 220 new homes being built just a few miles away from the town centre has been approved by Barnsley Council.

The multi-million pound development from Persimmon Homes will be built off Mitchells Way, Wombwell, on a 13-acre site.

Wayne Gradwell, managing director, said: "This new development is an integral part of our expansion programme to bring further new homes to the region.

"Our plans for the site includes a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes to suit a range of buyers, from those looking to get on the property ladder for the first time to families seeking more space as they grow."

Construction is scheduled to commence in December 2014 with the first properties expected to be occupied by the spring of 2015.
