A BUDDING Barnsley chocolatier has been commended for his work in a prestigious competition.

Catering student Bradley Mitchell, 18, of Merchant Croft, Barnsley, was a runner-up in the Keylink Student Chocolatier of the Year competition which attracted entrants from around the UK.

Bradley produced 12 handmade raspberry and white chocolate truffles, 20 cherry and dark chilli pralines, a truffle torte with passion fruit jelly on a praline and pailleté feuilletine base and a chocolate centrepiece with a summer theme.

"The day was very hard work, but I gained new skills and knowledge from the experience," he said. "I'm very proud of this achievement and would love to enter more competitions."

Angela McGinley, from the college's catering department, mentored Bradley in the competition.

She said: "We had no hesitation in putting him forward for this competition.

"He deserves great credit for his performance and the ability to improvise which he displayed on the day."
