THOUSANDS of council homes in Barnsley are to get more efficient heating systems - saving their occupants money and cutting carbon emissions.
Local contractor Kier is helping cut costs and reduce energy use for tenants by installing new heating systems.
Berneslai Homes has pledged to move towards installing air source heat pump (ASHP) systems in its 19,000 homes where gas and solid fuel systems need replacing.
Kier, which works in partnership with Berneslai Homes to deliver services to council homes, is providing MCS-accredited installation on the improvement schemes.
Pat Mollart, area regional manager at Kier, said: "Installing these systems for will help lower the cost of energy for tenants across the borough, as well as increasing sustainability and ensuring minimal energy wastage."
