TWO sisters who lost their 44-year-old mother to cervical cancer have organised a charity night to mark what would have been her 60th birthday.

Mal Taylor died 16 years ago when daughters Kathryn and Kirsty were 15 and seven respectively.

She had suffered some symptoms but delayed having them checked out.

Kathryn, now 30, of Columbia Street, Worsbrough Common, said she believed the outcome may have been different had Mal sought medical help earlier.

"Mum was 42 when she was diagnosed," Kathryn added. "She was given six months to live but survived for another year."

Along with sister Kirsty, 23, the pair have organised a fun run in Locke Park on July 5 and a charity night at Highstone WMC on July 18, where there will be four live bands, a Keith Lemon tribute act and a raffle.

The proceeds will be split between Macmillan Nurses and Barnsley Hospice.
