THE Reds have signed former Plymouth Argyle captain Conor Hourihane on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old midfielder made 142 appearances for Argyle after joining from Ipswich in 2011.

Hourihane, from the Republic of Ireland, came through the ranks at Sunderland and bagged 10 goals last term.

He is Barnsley's third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Kane Hemmings and Adam Davies.

"We’ve landed a terrific signing in Conor Hourihane," said Danny Wilson. "He typifies exactly want we want to do in terms of the longevity of the football club and getting in players with a longer term view in mind.

"Last season we didn’t score enough goals throughout the team and definitely in midfield we struggled to get goals.

"Hopefully Conor will continue to score goals and add to an area we have been lacking in."
