PUPILS, teachers and other staff at Carlton Primary have been enchanted by a nest of blue tits.

They have been able to keep tabs on the birds on a 70in TV screen since a nest was built in a bird box on a wall outside a classrooom in early March.

A mini camera has relayed 'live' pictures.

So far, 10 or 11 chicks out of about 14 eggs have hatched.

Parents have also been kept in touch with developments in a weekly newsletter.

A school spokesman said: "We put up the bird box after noticing a lot of birds were nesting in some nearby bushes.

"The children have loved being able to see on TV what has been happening in the nest. This has allowed the children to study real life natural history instead of just reading about it a text book."
