LIAM Lawrence has expressed his disappointment with the manner of his release from the club - after finding out by a voicemail left by Danny Wilson.
The veteran midfielder, 32, was initially told he was part of the manager's plans but was released by the club on Wednesday.
Lawrence, who claims he was willing to take a pay reduction to re-sign with the Reds, said: "Danny and I spoke about an extension just before the end of the season.
"He said he wanted me to stay and get the club back to the Championship. I was fully under the impression that I was staying.
"But then I got a message from the gaffer which said the club couldn't offer me anything. I'm a bit confused - it's not the way you'd want to do things."
Lawrence, who struggled out on the wing at first, moved into a central role and put in some good performances during his short stint with the club.
"It sounds like Danny is going for younger players but you can't beat experience," he added. "The club has let Bobby Hassell go, too.
"That's a strange decision. He could play in League One with his left foot."
