STAGECOACH has been named as Britain's best value major bus operator for the third successive year.

Analysis published by transport specialists TAS1 found that Britain's biggest bus operator provides regular passengers with the lowest cost weekly travel.

Stagecoach - which operates an extensive network of local services in Barnsley - carries 48 million passengers every year across the country.

Research found that its weekly travel is on average 12 per cent lower than the next cheapest operator.

Martin Griffiths, Stagecoach's chief executive, said: "Rising costs and public sector cuts all put pressure on prices, but we will continue to work hard to keep fares down and get more people back on board the bus."
