A WOMAN who lost control of her mobility scooter and fell into the path of an oncoming train has died.
The lady, 73, from Monk Bretton was on a mobility scooter when she lost control and travelled off the platform into the path of an oncoming train. She was trapped under the train for a while before being freed by the fire service and was taken to Northern General Hospital by air ambulance after the incident on Platform One at Barnsley Interchange last week.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Sadly we were informed in the early hours of Sunday 5 February that the 73 year old female who was involved in the accident at Barnsley railway station on 2 February has passed away in hospital.
"Although her injuries received from the accident were not life threatening unfortunately previous medical conditions severely hampered her recovery.
"Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
