AN EMPLOYEE from a Barnsley dealership has raised over £2,500 for a cancer charity.

Simon Hegarty, from Burrows Toyota in Barugh Green, took on the London Marathon's gruelling 26.2-mile course last Sunday as part of a globe-trotting running challenge.

Simon, who has been helped along the way in his quest to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research by his wife Sally, even travelled to Florida in January for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.

The four-day event, which offers participants the chance to run in five and ten-kilometre competitions as well as a half and full marathon, saw Simon run in every race.

"Knowing that we are doing something to help others has kept us going over the last few of months," Simon said.

"The charity is particularly close to our hearts at the moment and one which Sally and her family have been involved with for a number of years."
