A BARNSLEY MP has pledged a Labour government will scrap the so-called 'bedroom tax'.

A year since its introduction, low-income households have been forced to find on average an extra £720 a year.

Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher said: "People in Barnsley can't afford another year of this. Over 3,000 people in the town have been hit by this cruel and costly tax, many of whom have been forced into debt.

"If David Cameron doesn’t repeal the bedroom tax, the next Labour government will."
