TWO people have been arrested at Barnsley Interchange after an alleged racial assault.

A woman, aged 29 and a man, aged 31 were arrested on Monday evening at around 10.30pm after two women claimed they were being racially assaulted onboard the 21.37 Leeds to Sheffield Northern Rail service.

A spokesman for British Transport Police - who made the arrest - said: "The two victims, one aged 21, and the other aged 24, were travelling on the service when they were approached by the couple who are then alleged to have verbally abused them. The train was met by officers at Barnsley Interchange and the suspects were arrested.

“Both were released on police bail to return to Barnsley custody."
