A MAN has died and a Barnsley bus driver was injured in a car accident in Sheffield at the weekend.

A 28-year-old man, in a black VW golf, was travelling towards Meadowhall on Brightside Lane in Atlas, Sheffield when he is thought to have lost control and travelled sideways towards the bridge.

A Volvo double-decker bus - driven by a 46-year-old Barnsley man - was travelling in the opposite direction and - despite trying to avoid the car, collided with it.

The Golf driver, from Rotherham, died in the collision and the bus driver - who had trauma injuries - is being treated at the Northern General Hospital.

The accident happened just before 9.15pm (Saturday, 28 January). Police are asking witnesses to come forward, by phoning 101 and quoting incident number 1107 of Saturday, 28 January.
