A TAX on bank bonuses should be introduced to fund jobs for young people in Barnsley, according to MP Dan Jarvis.
Under Labour's Compulsory Jobs Guarantee, every young person out of work in Barnsley for more than 12 months will be given a paid starter job which they will have to take up or face losing benefits.
If it was introduced today, over 150 young people would benefit in the MP's Barnsley Central constituency.
Mr Jarvis said: "I know from talking to my constituents that youth unemployment is a big problem in our town.
"Most young people affected want to get off benefits and into work. This would give them the chance to make that move and start planning properly for their future.”
