A MAN has pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer following a fire at an address in Wombwell.

Nathan Newey, 27, of West Avenue, Rawmarsh, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Monday.

He has been remanded into custody and will be sentenced on April 3.

It follows an incident on Saturday when emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a property in Barnsley Road, Wombwell, at around 1.30pm.

A 31-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the incident, but has been released with no further action.
