IT is hoped brown trout, shrimps and mayflies will return to a dyke in Royston.

Yorkshire Water has been investigating Sandybridge Dyke and is creating a new double bend in it, with the design aimed to prevent damage to anything living in the water.

Once finished, the restoration should show improved signs of good water quality, such as plants and invertebrates, as well as speeding up the flow of the river and adding oxygen into the water.

Ian Kendall, estates manager of The Land Trust said: "We are delighted to be involved in this project and are very grateful for the massive investment that Yorkshire Water are making to improve such an important habitat."
