BARNSLEY fans booed their players after a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Huddersfield Town on Saturday which saw the Reds slip to the bottom of the Championship.
Danny Wilson's men - who have won just once on the road in over a year - made a positive start to the crucial derby game.
But it was the hosts who surged ahead with two quick-fire goals in the first half through Keith Southern and Danny Ward.
After the break, ex-Barnsley playmaker Adam Hammill made it 3-0 to put the game beyond doubt. Adam Clayton then scored from the penalty spot before Sean Scannell rounded off a comfortable win.
Despite their poor showing, Barnsley are still just two points adrift of safety after other results went their way.
Danny Wilson said: "Football is cruel sometimes. We're going to have bad days and this was a bad day, but we need to knuckle down in training and make sure we don't give easy goals away.
"The goals we gave away were poor and we need to be more resilient."
Wilson expects an angry response after heated exchanges between fans and players, saying: "The fans are passionate and you can't argue with the fans because they follow the club through thick and thin.
"We will get the flak, especially from our fans, but we have to take it on the chin."
