THE Reds secured a crucial three points on Saturday and moved to within two points of exiting the relegation zone.
Jim O'Brien scored the only goal of the game against fellow strugglers Millwall in what could prove to be a decisive point in the season.
The defeat left Millwall one place above the relegation zone, with Barnsley just two places and two points below them with a game in hand.
Both teams had won just one of their previous 12 league games before the clash and O'Brien's goal in the 4th minute, from the first chance of the match, proved the difference.
"We know the value of three points at this time of the season," said assistant manager Micky Mellon. "I'm delighted to get the result and collect all three points.
"We have a lot of experience of these types of games from last year. We know what's required and we're going to have to roll our sleeves up at times."
