SEVERAL properties have been raided as part of an investigation into an alleged drug dealing gang based in Barnsley.

Over the last 18 months, officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Unit have been investigating a group as part of 'Operation Metric' which focussed on the large-scale supply of Class A and B drugs within South Yorkshire.

On Tuesday, (January 17) a series of arrests and searches were made in Barnsley, Lincolnshire, and Nottinghamshire, turning up substances thought to be amphetamines and cocaine.

A spokesman said: "A large quantity of Class A and B controlled drugs were recovered together with a significant amount of cash."

Five men have appeared before courts today on drug-related charges. Paul Lowe, from Royston, Barnsley appeared before Magistrates charged with conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs; Gregg Gosling from Lincs, charged with conspiracy to supply class B drugs and possession with intent to supply class A and Class B; Andrew Calder, Nottingham, conspiracy to supply class B drugs; Roy Walker, Mansfield, conspiracy to supply class B drugs and possession; Rodney Stanford, Boston, possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.

All five were remanded in custody and will appear before a Crown Court judge in Sheffield next week.
